OK, who are we and what's "BOOK In A WEEKEND" anyway?
Here's a little bit of the story behind OUR story. Once upon a time there was a group of writers, mostly MEGAlumni. (No, we're not really big college graduates.) Because, in the rest of our lives, we're results-driven people, who met because we'd all decided (mostly independently of one another) to hone our skills at one of Mark Victor Hansen's MEGA events -- MEGA Book Marketing, MEGA Marketing Magic, MEGA...well, you get the idea. We'd all decided that we wanted to learn about the book business from someone who had succeeded. (You may not have heard of Mark, but you have heard of Chicken Soup for the Soul, haven't you?)
Wait. You need the whole truth. One of our group was a 'non-believer.' A skeptical, slightly resistant, 'I want to see some results here' business person. So while the rest of us learned about writing books and marketing them in a gigantic group process, we had a single hold-out who just watched and waited.
And then came the challenge.
"With all of that 'MEGA-knowledge' you guys should be able to
write a book in a really short period of time."
We were intrigued. And not one of us is able to resist a good challenge -- especially one that stretches us a bit.
So we thought of various short periods, and decided on 'a weekend.' We would choose a site, fly in, get together and write a book. In a weekend. And to keep it real, we set a few rules for ourselves:
- The book, from concept to final draft, would be written in one three day weekend--with NO discussion of topic or content specifics allowed beforehand!
- We would keep track of the process, through group discussions, some taped interview and written notes.
- We would make the information available to others who want to get a book done quickly.
- We would strive for a high-quality, enjoyable experience based trust and clear communication. And coffee. Lots of coffee.
- We would only write this book if it offered value, quality and integrity. (Of course, we reserved the right to be irreverent.)
So began a new chapter. There are four of us, we have over 90 years of management experience, and well over 100 years in the workforce. Before we turned to writing, publishing we'd worked in healthcare (profit and nonprofit), human services, multinational niche marketing...
And, in a single long weekend we wrote a tongue-in-cheek book for managers. It's called "Managing the Staff Infection" and is available in e-book form through our online bookstore.
And, while we certainly are individuals in our own right(s) the "Staff Infection" was written by us: The WhiteHOTFLASHESofBrilliance. (Sorry, you're going to have to hire us to get THAT story).
THE FINE PRINT: At the end of our weekend, we were happy that we had met our goal and that we had a viable -- and valuable -- process and product. Of course we weren't finished. Our commitment to our customers and our commitment to excellence saw us reviewing on the plane ride home. And there were a few gasps as we discovered things that might be "good enough", but not for us. So we corrected some typos -- and worked a bit on flow. It's not substantially different, and yet we feel better now after a few hours work. Of course we could find more ways to improve, but we don't want to stray too far from our initial work. We want people who are considering us for THEIR project to have the opportunity to see EXACTLY what we had produced from that (now famous!) Friday afternoon through Sunday evening.
You can have BOTH versions of the ebook to download NOW -- the original and the improved -- so you can see how we think, and how we got from there to here.
If you like Managing The Staff Infection, let us know that too!
